Massage Cupping
West Chester Massage and Bodywork offers Massage Cupping
This procedure was brought to light by the most recent Olympics. It is an old suction therapy that has been proven to loosen and soften tight tissues by moving deep into your muscles. Massage Cupping is a safe and effective therapy that helps to treat the dysfunction of soft tissue that contributes to the pain cycle. Massage Cupping lifts connective tissue, reduces inflammation, loosens adhesions and drains excess fluids and toxins. Cupping opens lymphatic pathways. The fibrous bands between tissues and organs that may be seen as scar tissue are often helped by Massage Cupping. Massage Cupping must be applied to well lubricated skin. There are several techniques that can be used but it is the large purplish red circles left on the skin after a treatment that most people are familiar with. This is the result of “parking.” Parking is when the massage cups are left on the skin for several minutes or “parked.” The discoloration left on the skin in the shape of a circle is called a “cup kiss” and is due to metabolic waste or stagnant blood that is brought to the surface of the skin. The discoloration can last several days. This type of massage is given by occupational therapists, physical therapists and professional licensed massage therapists. It is an incredibly useful massage and can be customized for individuals. There are numerous techniques for massage cupping. Let West Chester Massage & Bodywork help find the right one for you.
